What is the difference between Porcelain and Ceramic?

Ceramic is a clay fired at a low temperature. Which will make the ceramic more dense and more porous. Ceramic is cheaper to make because it requires less heat and less drying time. For example ceramic floor tiles are generally cheaper than porcelain floor tiles.

Porcelain is the hardest clay you can get. It is fired at extreme temperatures between 2192 and 2552 degrees farenheight. This extreme heat causes the clay to become less dense and less porous. The Vitreous China coating is applied later in the heating process to give it its durability and finish.

Ceramic can be easily chipped or cracked by accidently dropping bathroom essentials. The cost of tearing out your vanity sink and replacing it can range from $250 on up and include a plumber and a contractor!
